Parker Cowan Lawyers announces one promotion and two new hires
Parker Cowan Lawyers has announced the promotion of Amy Scott to Senior Associate. The firm also welcomes Johanna King and Abbey Trewavas-Hebson as Senior Lawyers to its team.
Amy Scott has recently been promoted to Senior Associate at Parker Cowan, bringing a broad range of legal experience to her role. Prior to joining the firm, she worked for leading firms both in New Zealand and overseas.
At Parker Cowan, her diverse background has equipped her for making the transition into insurance law a natural progression. Amy now represents private clients, insurers, and insured parties, with a strong focus on civil litigation. She regularly advises on professional indemnity claims, employment matters, and medico-legal issues, applying her extensive experience to navigate complex insurance-related disputes.
Amy also contributes to the legal profession through her role as the current Convenor of the Otago Standards Committee.
Abbey Hebson joins Parker Cowan from a career in employment and industrial relations in the health sector, and working alongside a Medico-legal insurer, where she advised health practitioners for near 7 years. Abbey has vast experience in mediation and negotiation, having negotiated many contracts with Te Whatu Ora and other national health agencies. Abbey is particularly interested in employment law and dispute resolution and places great emphasis on the early resolution of matters to ensure fast and efficient service to her clients.
Johanna King brings a mix of public inquiry, private client, and policy experience to insurance litigation. After beginning her legal career in New Zealand, she spent several years abroad, working in London as legal counsel for a major European corporate and on the UK Cabinet Office’s Infected Blood Inquiry.
Back home, Johanna worked as a Senior Solicitor at the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care, where she was part of a team involved in large-scale investigations and was the Lead Writer of a significant case study report.
Johanna’s experience spans advocacy, investigations, statutory interpretation, and policy reform, bringing valuable insight to civil litigation. She has also volunteered in human rights and community support roles.
