Waikato Bay of Plenty Standards Committee - lawyer members needed

Do you want to work with a dedicated group of lawyers and lay people to make a difference and help uphold standards in your profession?

The New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is seeking expressions of interest for lawyer member positions on its Waikato Bay of Plenty Standards Committee. Appointments are likely to be for an initial term of one year.

Lawyers Standards Committees consider conduct complaints and reports about lawyers and law firm employees and direct the associated investigation and independent decision-making for appropriate disciplinary outcomes.

We are seeking lawyer members with experience in one or more of the following areas: employment law, property law, family law, general civil litigation, trusts/estates, commercial law, small business law, general practice law.

You must have practised as a lawyer for a period or periods totalling no less than five years and be of good character with the skill, experience, and judgement needed to investigate and consider complaints.

You will work collaboratively with the Committee members and be supported by dedicated staff in the Lawyers Complaints Service. There is reading and some preparation before each monthly meeting.

Committee members are based across the Waikato Bay of Plenty area. Committee meetings are usually held remotely via Teams each month with an annual in-person meeting, usually in Hamilton or Tauranga.
