The New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is seeking expressions of interest for lawyer member positions on its Wellington Standards Committee. The positions are for an initial term of two years.  

Lawyers Standards Committees consider conduct complaints and reports about lawyers and law firm employees and direct the associated investigation and independent decision-making for appropriate disciplinary outcomes.  

We are seeking lawyer members with experience in one or more of the following areas: employment law, property law, family law, criminal law, trusts/estates, small business law, general practice, civil litigation and commercial law.

You must have practised as a lawyer for a period or periods totalling no less than five years and be of good character with the skill, experience and judgment needed to investigate and consider complaints.

You will work collaboratively with Committee members and be supported by dedicated staff in the Lawyers Complaints Service.  There is reading and some preparation before each monthly meeting.  

Committee members are based across the Wellington area. As such, meetings are generally held remotely via Microsoft Teams with an occasional in person meeting.
