The criminal law seminar will examine the practical impact the Bill of Rights has had on criminal law and procedure, reflecting on the work that is still to be done. 

This seminar will appeal to criminal lawyers and practitioners advising clients on matters which could result in a prosecution. 

James Rapley KC will convene a panel of criminal law experts, discussing the following:  

  • Fitness to plead and the Bill of Rights – effective participation in a trial involving a vulnerable defendant.   

  • Improperly obtained evidence and s 30 of the Evidence Act:  vindication of rights and incentivising legality?  

  • Arrest and detention rights – lip service to a fundamental right?  

  • Fair trial rights and criminal disclosure – does the Bill of Rights go far enough?
