New Zealand Law Society - AI research tools and training
The New Zealand Law Society Library subscribes to AI-enabled research tools to help you find relevant cases, test legal arguments and answer legal questions; all grounded in trusted legal publishers New Zealand content.
Argument Analyser and CCH iKnowConnect are available in Law Society Libraries (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch), on the Law Society wifi and at Lawyer's Room Kiosks in court houses across the motu. Westlaw AI-Assisted Research is available via our Law Society Library team - you can instruct them to use Westlaw AI on your behalf or they may use in your research results.
AI is a powerful starting point for legal research but is not a substitute for your own legal judgment. Before you use the Library's AI-enabled databases, you will be asked to agree to our Terms and Conditions of use.
Verify everything - Generative AI can produce incorrect or non-existent citations. Check every case, legislative reference and point of law against the primary source before relying on it.
Protect client information - Think before uploading documents. Do not upload privileged or confidential material.
Remember your professional obligations - You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of any work product AI has helped to produce.
Learn the tool before you rely on it - Each legal supplier provides free training material (see the links below). Investing in training significantly improves the quality of your legal research.
