Your responsibilities when using AI tools

AI is a powerful starting point for legal research but is not a substitute for your own legal judgment.  Before you use the Library's AI-enabled databases, you will be asked to agree to our Terms and Conditions of use.  

Top Tips

• Verify everything - Generative AI can produce incorrect or non-existent citations.  Check every case, legislative reference and point of law against the primary source before relying on it. 
• Protect client information - Think before uploading documents.  Do not upload privileged or confidential material. 
• Remember your professional obligations - You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of any work product AI has helped to produce.
• Learn the tool before you rely on it - Each legal supplier provides free training material (see the links below).  Investing in training significantly improves the quality of your legal research. 

Argument Analyser

An AI powered legal tool from LexisNexis that allows you to upload legal documents or paste in drafted text, Argument Analyser scans your work and recommends cases, legislation and legal issues.  

Use cases: Strengthen legal submissions; Review opposing arguments; Check citations against Lexis content.

CCH iKnow Connect

Wolters Kluwer's research platform iKnow Connect includes an AI powered assistant, powered by OpenAI's Chat GPT.  Ask questions in plain language to generate legal answers directly linked to subscription content. 

• AI Powered Q&A - answers delivered directly within your search results.
• AI Chat Assistant - a generative AI Assistant you can launch from within the platform.
• AI Generated Summaries - quick, source linked summaries of complex content.
