MWIS is proud to be the Office of the Crown Solicitor at Whangārei and has been since the warrant was established in Northland in 1971. 

We are looking for litigators with criminal law experience to join our supportive and collaborative team as junior and intermediate Crown Prosecutors. 

He angitūtanga | The opportunity 

The Whangārei Crown Solicitors Office services the Northland Courts, based in Whangārei, Kaikohe, Kaitaia and Dargaville. You will prosecute matters in these courts along with the High Court at Whangārei. You will appear for the Crown on hearings at all stages of the prosecution process and be responsible for the file work involved in prosecutions allocated to you. You will have extensive opportunities to conduct jury trials and develop your skills as a jury trial lawyer. Through your work, you will engage with a broad range of stakeholders within the justice system, including Police, Courts, Defence and Corrections.

To be successful in this role you will need to bring: 

  • A sound understanding of criminal law and evidence 
  • The agility and resilience to work within a high-volume work environment involving complex criminal cases  
  • Excellent digital, verbal and written skills, with the ability to adjust your communication to suit a range of audiences 
  • Honesty, transparency, empathy and an ability to work in a team environment 
  • A desire to spend time in Court
