About Us 

Lodestone Energy is a fast-growing generator and retailer with a clear ambition to reshape how energy is produced, sold and experienced in New Zealand. We already have multiple solar farms operating, more coming online, and a deep development pipeline ahead and with our innovative product offering we are becoming a bold and disruptive force in Aotearoa’s energy landscape. As we scale, the legal work is becoming more interesting, more complex, and more commercially impactful.

Why this role might be worth a conversation 

This isn’t a narrow, back-office legal role. You’ll be embedded in the business, working closely with senior leaders and directly contributing to how projects get done. 

You’ll get exposure to: 

• End-to-end renewable energy projects — from development through to operation 
• A genuinely broad mix of work: construction, property, financing, energy markets, commercial contracts and more 
• Strategic and regulatory issues as the energy market evolves 
• Direct interaction with experienced Board and Management stakeholders 
• You’ll be part of a small, high-performing legal team that values pragmatism, sound judgement, and getting things done. 

What you’ll be doing 

• Providing commercially-focused legal advice across the business 
• Drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of agreements (construction, supply, connection, finance, commercial and more) 
• Supporting project delivery alongside development, construction and commercial teams 
• Working with external counsel where needed — but owning outcomes internally 
• Contributing to company secretarial and governance matters 
• Building strong relationships across the business and industry 

What we’re looking for 

We’re looking for someone that has ideally 4-8 years PQE along with the strong capability, a solutions mindset and excellent judgement. 

You’ll likely bring: 

• A New Zealand law degree and current practising certificate 
• Experience (in-house or private practice) that allows you to operate with a degree of independence 
• Strong drafting skills and a commercial, solutions-focused approach 
• Confidence to engage with senior stakeholders and advocate for a position 
• A pragmatic, down-to-earth style — and a sense of humour 

Experience in construction, property, finance, corporate or commercial law will be valuable.

Energy experience is a bonus — genuine interest is essential.
