About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Solicitor / Senior Legal Counsel to join a specialist Policy & Regulatory Affairs function in a role where your work will have genuine influence. 

Working within a small, high-performing and collaborative team, you will be involved in a broad mix of complex and meaningful work. This includes leading regulatory engagement, supporting compliance obligations, contributing to the development of market rules and policy settings, and advising on regulatory aspects of market and product initiatives. 

You will play a key role in shaping regulatory frameworks, engaging with domestic and international regulators, and contributing to policy submissions impacting New Zealand’s capital markets. 

This is a role that offers both variety and visibility — ideal for someone who enjoys working close to decision-making, taking ownership of their work, and contributing to outcomes that matter.

What we’re looking for  

  • A qualified lawyer with an LLB and a current (or eligible) NZ practising certificate  

  • Approximately 5–7 years’ experience in legal, regulatory, policy, or capital markets environments 

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking capability  

  • Excellent drafting skills, including the ability to produce clear, structured advice and submissions  

  • Experience engaging with regulators and managing stakeholder relationships  

  • The ability to translate complex regulatory issues into practical, commercial outcomes  

  • Strong research capability, including exposure to comparative or international regulatory frameworks  

  • Excellent communication and time management skills
