Tenancy Adjudicators are required for the Tenancy Tribunal
The Tenancy Tribunal is looking to appoint two Tenancy Adjudicators, with at least one of those based in Auckland.
As a Tenancy Adjudicator you will hear and determine claims under the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 and the Unit Titles Act 2010. Adjudicators can make orders The Tribunal can make orders up to a maximum of $100,000.
This role is ideal for those wanting to start or further a career in judicial decision making.
Tenancy Adjudicators are appointed under warrant for a period of up to five years and can be reappointed at the expiry of their term. Remuneration is set by the Remuneration Authority. The current remuneration is a daily rate of $960, with part days (less than 6 hours) being pro-rated based on an 8-hour day. Remuneration is reviewed every year. The remuneration payable to a Tenancy Adjudicator in any year is currently capped at $215,500.

The successful applicants will have a legal qualification or relevant experience in adjudication. Applicants must demonstrate a capacity for impartial adjudication, the ability to conduct a hearing professionally, and an ability to manage hearings with self-representing parties. They must also be able to demonstrate efficient work habits, good time-management and an ability to make clear, logical decisions. Good oral and written communication skills are essential, as is computer literacy. Some flexibility to travel would be beneficial.
