About the role

National Infrastructure Funding and Financing (NIFF) is seeking a talented lawyer to join its Auckland CBD team as a Senior Legal Counsel.

This is a rare opportunity to work on complex and high-profile infrastructure projects that make a tangible difference to communities throughout New Zealand. You will gain exposure to sophisticated funding and financing structures, major commercial transactions and innovative infrastructure solutions, while working alongside experienced professionals across the public and private sectors.

The role offers exceptional breadth and variety. You will advise on commercial agreements, procurement processes, financing arrangements, governance matters and infrastructure transactions, while partnering closely with government agencies, local authorities, developers, investors and other key stakeholders.

What we’re looking for:

We're interested in hearing from commercially minded lawyers who bring:

  • At least 4 years' PQE gained in private practice, in-house, or a combination of both
  • A current New Zealand legal practising certificate
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and legal documentation
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide practical, solutions-focused advice
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to take ownership of matters while working collaboratively within a team
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Experience in banking and finance, project finance, infrastructure, corporate/commercial law, construction, or the public sector would be advantageous
  • A genuine interest in developing expertise in infrastructure funding, financing and complex commercial transactions
