The Portfolio of Legal Affairs is currently inviting applications for the following post within the Solicitor General’s Office, Attorney General’s Chambers: 

Crown Counsel (Civil) 

CI$87,444.00 - CI$114,768.00 (USD $105,400.00 - $138,300.00) per annum  

The Crown Counsel (Civil) undertakes civil litigation and provides legal advice and assistance to Government departments and statutory authorities. Duties include conducting and managing civil litigation and tribunal proceedings, advocacy, settlement negotiations and appeals, as well as child protection litigation and advocacy on behalf of the Department of Children and Family Services, including matters relating to supervision orders, care orders, emergency protection orders and wardship. 

The role also includes providing legal advice on safeguarding, mandatory reporting duties, data-sharing powers, statutory interpretation, legal compliance and risk management, as well as drafting and reviewing leases, licences and other agreements. 

Applicants for this position must be a solicitor, barrister or Attorney-at-Law qualified to practise in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction. It is also a requirement that applicants possess: 

  • At least five years’ relevant post-qualification experience;
  • Aptitude as an advocate with the ability to assimilate instructions quickly; and
  • The ability to conduct independent research and give clear and accurate advice.
